Engineered hardwood flooring has the same richness and classic beauty as solid wood, with gorgeous undertones, knots, raised grains, swirls, and wormholes.
It does, however, have a more practical side that, combined with the aesthetics, is the reason it’s taking over such a large share of the wood flooring industry.
If you'd like to get better acquainted with engineered wood, feel free to come into our showroom or give us a call to learn more about our shop at home option.
The only difference is construction
Most of us know the solid version of hardwood, one slab throughout the thickness. Engineered is layered; at the top sits a slice of genuine wood which is what gives the classic beauty. Underneath are at least three layers of authentic wood, combined with a little resin. The layers criss-cross, giving the product more stability and an increased ability to handle water.
Like any wood floor, it adds value to your home and can be refinished. Design-wise, engineered boards are a little wider, and are often (but not always) sold pre-finished. Popular species options are the same, bring maple, oak, hickory, walnut, and cherry.
Engineered hardwood in basements
This hardwood can be installed in any house grade level, as well as in some higher-than-normal moisture spaces, such as powder rooms and half (not full) baths are fine.

While both have the tongue and groove inserts, solid needs also to be nailed or glued. Engineered offers the floating floor option; the pieces click together to form a mat that hovers over the subfloor without nails, staples, or glue.
